Vermicelli Upma

An easy snack to make !!


Ingredients : Roasted vermicelli, Coconut, Urad dal, Mustard seeds and Dried red chilli.


Boil 3 cups of water with 1/2 tsp of salt.



When it starts to boil,add 1 cup vermicelli.
(When using vermicelli that is not roasted ,saute it in a pan with little oil for few seconds until it turns golden brown and then add to the boiling water)


You can take a few strings out and see if its still hard.
Cook until they are soft and perfect.

When it’s done,drain it and rinse with cold water until it is cool. Set aside while you prepare the other ingredients.


Heat 1 Tbsp oil and splutter 1/2 tsp mustard seeds.


Add 1 tsp Urad dal .


Fry it till golden brown.


Add the dried red chilli..


Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder.




Add 1/4 cup grated coconut.


Fry it for 1 minute.


Finally add the vermicelli.


Mix it nicely...Always taste at the end and see if it doesn't need more salt !!

Ingredients
  • Vermicelli - 1cup
  • Water to  Boil it - 3 cups
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp

  • Oil - 1Tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Dried red chilli - 2
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
Directions :
  • Cook vermicelli in water with salt.
  • Drain it and cool it.
  • Heat oil.
  • Add mustard seeds,urad dal,dried red chilli,turmeric powder and grated coconut one at a time .
  • And finally add the vermicelli and stir all together.
