Yellow Lentil / Toor Dal / Parippu curry

Simple parippu curry without coconut 

Take 1/2 cup of parippu in a bowl.

Fill the bowl with 1 cup of water and soak the it for minimum 5hrs.

After 5 hrs parippu will be double the quantity

Now wash it under running water and transfer it to the pressure cooker and add 1 cup of water.

Add 1/2 tsp of Salt ...

and 1/2 tsp of Turmeric.Close the lid and pressure cook it on high flame .When it starts to release pressure put the weight and keep it in low flame till one whistle and then off the flame.Wait till the pressure is completely gone.

Slice 6 shallots or 1/4 of an onion.

Take 1 Tb sp of oil in a pan

Add the shallots when oil is hot

Fry it till it is slightly brown on the edges.

Immedietly add 1/2 tsp of red chilly powder and off the flame.

Give it a quick stir ...

And transfer it to the cooked dal or parippu and stir...

Ingredients
  • Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric -1/2 tsp
  • Shallots - 6
  • Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
Directions:
  • Soak the parippu in 1 cup water for 5hrs.
  • Pressure cook the parippu with 1 cup of water.
  • Add 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.
  • Slice the shallots.
  • Saute it in oil.
  • Transfer it to the parippu.
