Parippum Neyyum


A very simple and tasty dish prepared for Sadhya with lentils.


You need very few ingredients for this curry: Moong dal, Grated coconut, Cumin seeds, Ginger, Green chilli, Turmeric,Salt (Sorry I missed salt in the picture..But you know what salt is !!) and Curry leaves.
Soak 1/2 cup Moong dal in 1 Cup water for 2 to 3 hours.

  
Then transfer it to a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water.

  
1/2 tsp Salt

  
and 1/4 tsp Turmeric.Pressure cook it till one whistle.


Meanwhile add  1/2 Cup Grated coconut


A small piece of Ginger


1/4 tsp cumin seeds


and 1 Green chilli in a ginder


and grind it like this.
Next add 2 Tbsp of water


and grind it again to a smooth paste.




Gently press the cooked lentils with the back of the spoon


and add the coconut paste.

Boil it for 2 minutes..

Finally throw some curry leaves to the hot Coconut oil
  
and pour it on top of the curry.
Simple and delicious !!


RECIPE

Servings: 8(for Sadhya) 4(for regualr meal)

Ingredients:
  • Moong dal - 1/2 Cup
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 1/2 Cup
  • Ginger - Small piece
  • Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Green chilli - 1
  • Water - 2 Tbsp
  • Coconut Oil - 1 Tbsp
  • Curry elaves - 5 or 6
Directions:
  • Cook the lentils with salt and turmeric in a pressure cooker.
  • Grind the coconut with ginger,cumn seeds, green chilli, and water.
  • Add it to the cooked lentils.
  • Heat coconut oil and add curry leaves.
  • Pour it on top of the curry.Serve hot.
